‘इंटेलिजेन्ट डिज़ाईन’ – सृजनवादियों का नया पैंतरा

मज़हबी कट्टरवादियों ने १९८९ में एक पुस्तक प्रकाशित की। इसका नाम 'ऑफ पांडास्  एण्ड पीपल' है। इसमें सिद्वान्त तो सृजनवाद का ही है पर सृजनवाद की जगह 'इंटेलिजेन्ट डिज़ाईन' (Intelligent Design) शब्द का प्रयोग किया गया है। इन लोगों ने स्कूलों को निम्न तरह की यह  नीति निर्णय लेने के लिए बाध्य किया,

'The Pennsylvania Academic Standards require students to learn about Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and Case eventually to take a standardized test of which evolution is a part.

Because Darwin’s Theory is a theory, it continues to be tested as new evidence is discovered. The Theory is not a fact. Gaps in the Theory exist for which there is no evidence. A theory is defined as a well-tested explanation that unifies a broad range of observations.

Intelligent Design is an explanation of the origin of life that differs from Darwin’s view. The reference book, Of Pandas and People, is available for students who might be interested in gaining an understanding of what Intelligent Design actually involves.

With respect to any theory, students are encouraged to keep an open mind. The school leaves the discussion of the Origins of Life to individual students and their families. As a Standards-driven district, class instruction focuses upon preparing students to achieve proficiency on Standards-based assessments.'

'स्कूल में   डार्विन का विकासवाद का सिद्धांत पढ़ाया जा सकता है। लेकिन शिक्षक उसको पढ़ाने के पहले विद्यार्थियों को बतायें कि यह केवल सिद्धांत है और इस सिद्धांत का कोई तथ्य नहीं है।
इंटेलीजेंट डिज़ाइन सिद्धांत भी प्राणियों की उत्पत्ति के बारे में बताता है और यह डार्विन के विकासवाद से भिन्न है। इस बारे में 'ऑफ  पांडास एण्ड पीपल' नामक पुस्तक  विद्यार्थियों  के लिए उपलब्ध है जो इस सिद्वान्त के बारे में बताती है।
विद्यार्थियों से कहा जाता है कि वे अपने मस्तिष्क को खुला रखे।  इस बारे में, विद्यालय विद्यार्थियों को उनके एवं परिवार के विवेक पर छोड़ते है।'

यह नीति बहुत सारे स्कूलों में लागू कर दी गयी।  कुछ अभिभावकों ने इस नीति निर्णय को न्यायालय के समक्ष चुनौती दी।

अमेरिका के पेन्सिलवेनिया राज्य के परीक्षण न्यायालय ने, टैमी किट्ज़मिलर बनाम डोवर एरिया स्कूल डिस्ट्रिक्ट मुकदमें में, दिनांक २० दिसम्बर,२००५ को अपना फैसला देते हुऐ घोषणा की,

'A declaratory judgement is issued in favour of Plaintiff ... that Defendant's [School's] policy violates the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States and Article 1& 3 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

... Defendants are permanently enjoined from maintaining ID Policy in any school within Dover Area District.'  

यह नीति अमेरिका के प्रथम संशोधन का उल्लघंन करती है, और असंवैधानिक है।
विपक्ष पक्ष को आदेशित किया जाता है कि वे इस नीति को डोवेर क्षेत्र के किसी भी स्कूल में  लागू न करें।
