Leadership
Culture Is Not What You Build—It’s What You Allow
17 April 2025 · By Sameer Kamboj
We often talk about building culture—defining values, designing rituals, writing handbooks. But culture isn’t crafted through documents. It’s shaped by what we allow, overlook, tolerate, and silently endorse.
Energy Is Contagious—Especially Yours
Your team may not follow your words, but they always mirror your energy. If you show up agitated, they absorb it. If you lead with presence, they begin to anchor themselves too. The culture you live is the one your team learns.
Control Doesn’t Create Culture—Consciousness Does
Micromanagement, policies, or perks might change behavior—but not beliefs. Culture grows from small signals:
Who gets heard in meetings
What is rewarded (speed vs. thoughtfulness)
How failure is handled These signals are often unconscious—until you make them conscious.
Allow What Aligns. Interrupt What Doesn’t.
Leadership isn’t about being liked. It’s about being clear. If you say you value collaboration but allow silos, you create confusion. If you say you value wellbeing but glorify overwork, you breed burnout.
Ask yourself:
What energy do I bring into the room?
What do I allow to go unaddressed?
What kind of behaviour gets reinforced?
Because culture isn’t built in one meeting or offsite. It’s built moment by moment—by how you lead when no one is watching.
Culture begins with you. Not your strategy. Not your slides. Just your awareness.
