Are you a Conscious Decision Maker? Or is your Decision Making Unconscious?

As we start a new week, as Entrepreneurs, Business Leaders, ambitious young people wanting to scale the business ladder – I would suggest that we move our focus to something all of us take for granted. Our Decision making abilities. Ask yourself “How Do I make decisions”. Most of us will say instinctively. Others will say, after deliberation. But, have we really thought about it? Have we thought of making it consciously?

At its core, decision-making is more than just selecting between Option A and Option B. It's a deep, often intricate dance of our consciousness with experiences, biases, emotions, and logic. Our conscious awareness is the control centre where decisions are not merely made, but also understood.

The depth of our consciousness can influence our decisions both overtly and subtly. For instance, you may consciously choose a business strategy after weighing its pros and cons, but the very way they perceive those pros and cons can be influenced by subconscious biases. By elevating our level of consciousness, we can bring these biases into our conscious awareness, thereby making more informed and balanced decisions.

We also need to understand, a heightened consciousness also opens the door to greater empathy. In a business context, this can mean understanding the viewpoints of colleagues, employees, stakeholders, or even competitors. An empathetic approach to decision-making often results in choices that are beneficial not just for an individual or a company, but for the greater good.

On a personal level, understanding the role of our consciousness can be transformative. Have you ever decided on "autopilot" and later regretted it? By being more consciously present in our decisions, we can align them more closely with our core values and long-term objectives, rather than fleeting emotions or external pressures.

In this rapidly evolving world, where decisions often need to be made in the blink of an eye, the depth of our consciousness can be our compass. It provides a foundation of clarity and purpose in a sea of overwhelming choices. By cultivating a more profound consciousness, we empower ourselves to make decisions that resonate with authenticity, purpose, and a holistic understanding of their impacts.

In conclusion, our consciousness is not just a passive observer in the decision-making process; it's an active participant. Recognizing and nurturing its role can lead us towards more insightful, empathetic, and effective choices, both professionally and personally.
