Are You Emotionally Conscious?
1 September 2023 · By Shalini Kamboj
As we start a new month, the question to ponder on is are you Emotionally Conscious?
Emotional consciousness is different from being just emotionally aware. It refers to the awareness and recognition of one's own emotions and the emotions of others and then an ability to choose not to function under the influence of emotional compulsions. Not by suppression or denial of emotions but by complete acceptance of it.
It involves the ability to perceive, understand, and process emotions in oneself and in others, as well as the capacity to express and regulate emotions effectively.
Emotional Consciousness (EC) is the key to building great organizations. The human construct consists of three main elements: body, mind, and intellect. Emotionally conscious people can clearly see their own limitations and work toward overcoming them. They understand and accept others and help them overcome their emotional compulsions. Some of the greatest obstacles to resolving human conflicts are the rigid and fixed notions that people live with.
When rigid people meet each other, it becomes a challenge for them to function as a team. Their opinions, ideas, beliefs, likes, dislikes, and convictions act as barriers to engaging with each other.
And this is what you see in many organizations – the clash of two rigid people – who would rather see the company drown than give way to the other. That really helps no one.
What we all need to do is create Win-Win solutions by understanding our own limitations and compensate for them by working with others – without grudges.
